FFXIV Daily Brief (Oct 20): Patch 7.57 Hotfix Maintenance Underway, JP Account Breach Warning Issued
Published: October 20, 2026 | Keywords: FFXIV, Final Fantasy 14, Patch 7.57 hotfix, All Worlds maintenance, account security, Evercold
Today at a glance: Final Fantasy XIV is in the middle of an All Worlds maintenance to deploy Patch 7.57 Hotfixes, with the game unavailable from 12:00 to 18:00 Beijing Time on October 20. Separately, Square Enix issued an account security warning on October 19 confirming a wave of unauthorized logins on Japanese accounts, believed to be credential stuffing. Still to come this week: a Duty Commenced broadcast, the first Crucible Rankings season, a Final Fantasy VII Remake crossover attraction, and Tokyo Fan Fest.

Square Enix has not yet published the specific fix list on the Lodestone; expect it after maintenance ends |
Also suspended during maintenance:
- Data Center Travel — suspended 30 minutes before maintenance begins, unavailable until it ends.
- Mog Station — Home World Transfer, Character Renaming, and item/gift code entry suspended on the same schedule.
- Companion App — some features remain unavailable until maintenance ends.
- Duty Recorder — any data recorded before this maintenance can no longer be replayed afterward.
Related: several Worlds hit by technical issues
Shortly before the maintenance, the Lodestone published a cluster of recovery notices on October 19 covering multiple North American data centers:
- Halicarnassus (Dynamis)
- Excalibur (Primal)
- Cactuar (Aether)
- Instanced Areas on both Dynamis and Crystal
All have been resolved. Given the timing, today's hotfix is very likely tied to cross-world problems surfaced after 7.57 went live. Square Enix has acknowledged that following the early rollout of same-region player matching, actions like viewing the Friend List, opening an Adventurer Plate, or sending a Tell to a character on another World take longer than expected when that character is offline — the company ran a separate emergency maintenance limited to cross-world functions on October 14.
2. Account Security: Unauthorized Logins on JP Accounts, Change Your Password
On October 19, Square Enix posted a notice confirming unusual login activity on some Square Enix accounts. The company believes attackers may be attempting credential stuffing using email addresses and passwords leaked from other online services.
- Who is at risk: players who reuse the same password across their SE account and other sites, or who use easily guessed passwords — repeated characters, sequential numbers, birthdays.
- What SE is doing: suspected accounts are being locked, with unlock instructions sent to the registered email. You must reset your password before logging in again.
- What you should do: switch to a strong, unique password and enable a one-time password (OTP).
- It could escalate: if unauthorized access keeps growing, SE says it may require a universal password reset for all accounts.
Square Enix linked the activity to a broader run of intrusions targeting Japanese organizations. Since October 2026, at least 20 major Japanese companies, platforms and public systems have been illegally accessed, including Burger King Japan, Yakiniku King, ticketing platform Skyticket, and rental service Times Car. SE has not disclosed how many accounts were affected, nor whether any game data was lost.
3. Patch 7.57 Recap: What Actually Changed
The base patch behind today's hotfix, Patch 7.57, went live on October 13 with three main components:
- Same-region Player Matching (Japan data centers): players on Elemental, Gaia, Mana, and Meteor can use Duty Finder and Party Finder across Worlds within their physical data center — no more Data Center Travel hopping. North America and Europe do not have it yet; SE plans to roll it out before Evercold launches.
- Beastmaster fixes: pets under the Stay command now turn to face their target before executing Tempered Release or Parting Blow. SE also fixed Dullahans in the North Shroud, Amdapor Keep, and The Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) not being capturable, and an issue where Calamity sometimes failed to deal damage at range.
- Crucible of the Unbroken tuning: elite enemy defeat score raised from 625 to 800 and the Sleepless Survival bonus from 375 to 1,000. Crucible mode selection is now temporarily saved, and parties of three or fewer get automatic familiar registration.
Two known issues remain: the incorrect end date displayed for Crucible Rankings Season 1, and a restriction on ranked Crystalline Conflict registration on Japanese data centers — affected players must first use World Visit to travel to an Elemental World before queuing.

5. What to Do Today
- Reset your password and turn on OTP. If you reuse the same email and password combination anywhere else, change your SE account password today.
- Deal with your Duty Recorder data. Anything recorded before this maintenance will stop replaying once it ends.
- Don't leave All Saints' Wake to the final week. The Grisly Bear Attire and returning rewards such as the Ambulario mount are limited-time, and the event closes November 2.
Today is light on content but heavy on consequences. An all-Worlds hotfix tells us same-region matching is still shaking out, while the account warning touches every player's assets directly. The real main course lands with the Tokyo Fan Fest keynote on October 30 — the Evercold release date, pre-order window, and the second new job should all surface inside those two hours.
