After the Launch Scale Test: All Eight Classes by Role — and the Seven Systems That Actually Decide Your Power

📅 September 24, 2026🎮 AION 2 · PC🧪 Launch Scale Test: Sep 17–18🚀 Global launch: October 5

What the Numbers Said

01⚡ One-Minute Recap: What the Test Actually Proved

The Launch Scale Test is over, and the numbers said more than the reviews did: 73,761 concurrent players on Steam during day one — inside a six-hour window, on a temporary build where every character was scheduled for deletion. Two things the test could not show: how each class actually plays past level 37, and how the seven progression systems stack into real Combat Power.

Question Answer
How big was it? 73,761 peak concurrent Steam players on day 1. PURPLE-launcher players aren't counted in that figure, so the real total was higher.
What was capped or switched off? Level cap 37. The shop, Quna, Market, Quna exchange, player trading, memberships and Founder's Pack items were all disabled.
Did progress carry over? Day 1 characters carried into day 2 — then everything was wiped. Nothing reached advance access or launch.
What broke and got fixed? Client crashes (hotfixed), quest-object interaction radius widened, appearance-change tickets restricted to level 10+. Four extra EU servers: Vaizel & Triniel (Elyos / Asmodian), then Kaisinel & Lumiel.
What's next? Sep 30 advance access for pack owners · Oct 5 free global launch, PC only.
💡 The takeaway that matters: this was an infrastructure test, not a content preview. NC used it exactly as intended — crashes, quest interaction and EU capacity were found and patched while every character was disposable. If you were waiting on "test impressions" to pick a class, they can't help you: nothing above level 37 existed.

Combat Identity

02🎮 How AION 2 Actually Plays

Strip the marketing away and the identity is clear: it's a hybrid, not a pure action game.

🛡️

Parry Creates Windows

Perfect Block and Perfect Parry don't just reduce damage — a successful parry breaks enemy pressure and opens an immediate counter.

📐

Position Is a Damage Stat

The client tracks your 3D placement in real time, so hitting from above, behind or at an angle can land bonus damage. In a flight-first game, high ground rotates.

🔗

Skills Chain, Not Spam

Abilities are sequenced — a freeze-type setup into a burst that only works on frozen targets, both fired in order from one key.

⚖️

The Verdict Is Split

Testers praised the UE5 presentation, character creator and flight-first world. On combat feel, opinions ran from "smooth" to "lacks snap".

📌 Judge it yourself: the level-37 cap means nobody has judged this game with a complete kit. Treat every "the combat feels like X" claim as provisional.

Where Power Actually Comes From

03🧩 The Seven Systems That Decide Your Power

This is the part of AION 2 that catches people out. Level 45 is not the end of progression — it's where the other six systems start paying out.

System Unlocks What it actually gives you
1 · Daevanion Board Boards around Lv 12 / 20 / 30 / 40 Four node types: white (1 pt, raw stats), green (2 pts, passive skill levels), blue (3 pts, active skill levels), orange (4 pts, unique board bonuses). Fed by regional quests and Sealed Dungeons.
2 · Stigma Around Lv 35 The build-defining skill layer. Slots went four → five (March 2026) → six in the KR/TW Chapter 1 build (the sixth opens at level 50). Skills level to 20, then 20 → 25 with Advanced Stigma Shards. Resets became free in Chapter 1.
3 · Skill levels & chains From Lv 1 Skill points raise abilities to level 10. Pushing key skills to the level 12 and 16 breakpoints is where bonus mechanical effects switch on.
4 · Feathers & Monoliths Early → Abyss Feathers scattered across Atreia are delivered to Monoliths. Verteron and Altgard have 30 levels and want 560 Feathers; rewards include Wisdom Stones — 1 Skill Point each.
5 · Sealed Dungeons + Divination Boards Daily, early on Dungeon-specific daily materials feed boards that unlock permanent, account-wide stats — attack, crit resistance, hit rate.
6 · Genus Insight (pets & mounts) Anywhere Roughly 300 pets and mounts exist in the KR/TW client — and pets double as mounts. Genus Insight runs to level 10 with nine slots; at level 10 the listed roll spread is 20% Common / 30% Rare / 30% Epic / 15% Unique / 5% Heroic. It's server-wide, so you build it once.
7 · Arcana, Wings Enhance & Substance Morphing Mid-to-late game Arcana cards from Transcendence dungeons raise skill levels and trigger set effects (Frenzy: +5% Boss Damage Amplification; Pure Blood: +5% Critical Damage Boost). Wings Enhance (May 2026, KR/TW) upgrades wings as their own gear slot. Substance Morphing converts materials into gear, Stigma Shards and dungeon-progression materials.

🎯 Priority order most players get wrong: Feathers and Sealed Dungeons look like side content and get skipped — but their rewards are account-wide and permanent, making them the best per-hour return in the game's first months. Chasing gear first is the more intuitive mistake.

PvP Reality at Launch

04🏰 The Abyss, Rifts and What Launch PvP Looks Like

Feature Reality at global launch
Open PvP zones Only Lower Reshanta. Middle Reshanta was KR/TW Season 2 content, Upper Reshanta came with Chapter 1 — don't plan a build around them.
Flags & opt-out The Abyss is always-on PvP — no flag to turn off. You get a 14-hour weekly budget per area, per character, extendable with Abyss time stones.
Rifts Open on your home map every 3 hours for a 10-minute window; up to one hour in enemy territory, ending early if you die without a return point.
Domination events Roughly six times a week. Four strongholds, three monoliths guarding each — attackers take three of four inside a 15-minute timer.
Abyss Points Capped weekly and seasonally. Rift kills double the payout until you hit the weekly cap, then drop to 10% of base.
Gearing rule No Heroic gear and no hard-mode Conquest at launch, and PvP gear carries heavy PvE damage penalties outside the Abyss. Gear PvE first; if you buy PvP, start with accessories (rings, earrings, necklace) — cheapest, and each adds flat PvP damage. Save the weapon.

⚖️ KR/TW balance context: the August 12 patch cut healer output by 20–50%, gave seven classes healing-reduction tools, and reworked battleground matchmaking to solo or five-stack with standardized 10v10 stats. Healing classes now play far more actively. Global may ship with those numbers already applied.

The Main Decision

05⚔️ All Eight Classes, by Role

Forget the tier charts for a minute. Here is what each class actually is when you sit down to play it.

🛡️ Templar

Easiest
Main tank

Sword-and-board frontline: taunt, aggro management, AoE mitigation and control — including a hook that drags airborne enemies back to the ground.

⚠️ Kills slowly solo; you exist for the group.

✨ Cleric

Easy
Main healer

Group heals, cleanse, resurrection, plus flight-heals and AoE stabilization for a game full of displacement hazards.

⚠️ Every enemy's first target; throughput healing is more active than it used to be.

⚔️ Gladiator

Hard (early)
Melee DPS / off-tank

Greatsword or polearm bruiser: wide AoE, knockdowns, life-leech sustain and executes. Transforms once attack-speed stats arrive.

⚠️ Clunky until geared; no innate mobility, gets kited.

🗡️ Assassin

Hard
Melee burst DPS

Stealth, gap-closers and the highest critical multipliers in the launch client, built around fast combo execution.

⚠️ Needs low latency and flawless positioning; punished by stray AoE.

🏹 Ranger

Easy
Ranged physical DPS

The sky specialist — kiting while gliding, directional skill-shots from maximum range, stealth scouting across contested ground.

⚠️ Gear-hungry; fragile when caught alone in PvP.

🔥 Sorcerer

Hardest
Ranged magic DPS

Highest raw single-target numbers when uninterrupted, meteor-scale AoE, and hard control that locks down choke points.

⚠️ Glass cannon; positioning decides everything.

🌪️ Spiritmaster

Moderate
Summoner / controller

Elemental summons that tank, damage and control, layered with DoT curses and AoE fear.

⚠️ Damage ramps slowly for speed-runs; pets interact awkwardly with high-speed flight.

🎵 Chanter

Moderate
Support / hybrid

Auras and mantras lifting party attack speed, crit and defense, with sub-heals and a staff melee combo.

⚠️ Smoothest class with a good group, roughest to level alone.
🔎 A ninth class exists — but not for you yet. Brawler (권성) was added to the Korean and Taiwan servers after Chapter 1, built around a Rage mechanic and aggressive sustained pressure. It is not in the global launch roster — don't plan a build from KR/TW footage.

Decision Time

06🧭 So Which Class Should You Pick?

Pick the role, not the tier. English class names weren't even finalised on the global client during the test, and every "best class" list circulating today is extrapolated from KR/TW data. What doesn't change is what you'll be doing for 200 hours.

If you want… Pick
The safest first character Templar or Cleric — clear roles, forgiving mistakes, always wanted
To never wait for a group Cleric, Templar, Chanter — tanks, healers and supports get instant invites
To solo efficiently Gladiator, Spiritmaster, Ranger
To win 1v1 duels Assassin, Sorcerer
To matter in large-scale faction wars Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Templar, Gladiator
The highest skill ceiling Sorcerer, Assassin
📊 Current snapshot, with a health warning: Gladiator, Assassin, Spiritmaster and Ranger currently sit at the top for solo play; Templar, Cleric and Sorcerer for PvE; Assassin and Sorcerer for PvP — with Templar and Cleric rated easiest to learn and Sorcerer hardest. The post-August KR/TW rankings reshuffled healer classes downward after the healing cuts. None of this is confirmed for global.

08🚀 Your Next Three Steps

Step 1 · Now

Lock your class and faction

Faction choice is social, not cosmetic — Elyos and Asmodian can't group together. Decide with your friends before you create anything.

Step 2 · Before level 45

Plan your system order, not your gear order

Feathers → Monoliths → Sealed Dungeons → Divination Boards give permanent account-wide returns. Gear is replaceable; those aren't.

Step 3 · Set your budget

Decide your Kinah number now

Enhancement, Wing upgrades, Stigma shards and Market purchases all compete for the same pool. Whether you farm it or buy Aion 2 Kinah, know your number before 45 hits.

🪽 Bottom line: the test proved the servers can hold a crowd. Whether your Daeva is the one carrying that crowd depends on the choices you make in the two weeks before launch.
