ArcheAge Chronicles Is Live: With No Cash Shop, Day One Is an Economy Decision
ArcheAge Chronicles Is Live: With No Cash Shop, Day One Is an Economy Decision
ArcheAge Chronicles · Steam Early Access · Unlocked 23:00 UTC, November 3
ArcheAge Chronicles went live on Steam at 23:00 UTC on November 3 — mid-afternoon on the US west coast, midnight in central Europe, a 7:00 AM start in Beijing. One purchase, no subscription.
That's the part worth caring about. This isn't another free-to-play Korean MMO with a cash shop bolted on: Early Access ships with the store closed and nothing on sale that touches combat power. Which means every upgrade material, every gem, every piece of gear in the game has to be produced by a player and moved to another player for gold.
So the decision on day one isn't which class to roll. It's which production line your hours go into. What follows runs from your first hour to the end of week one.
1. Get the clock right first

If you're only getting in now, none of the rest changes — the first hour is still the first hour. Five things to settle before you queue:
- Price. $29.99 in North America, €29.99 in Europe, one-time. No subscription, and XLGAMES has said any price change will be announced in advance. Regional pricing runs lower in parts of Asia.
- Platform. PC and Steam only. The PS5 and Xbox listings are wishlist pages pointing at 2027.
- Language. Interface and subtitles ship in English, Korean and both Chinese scripts. Voice acting is Korean only for now.
- Install. Budget 100GB or more. First launch compiles shaders — a long black screen is not a crash.
- Anti-cheat. XIGNCODE3, kernel-level. Close overlays and anything that fights it before you launch, or you'll spend your first twenty minutes on error codes instead of Coilstones.
- Servers. Brazil and Singapore were added alongside the existing nodes. The client picks a region for you — check the ping once you're in and switch manually if it's wrong.
2. Buy-to-play rewrites the economics
Most MMOs split the economy: the studio sells some of it, players earn the rest. This one is a straight player-to-player economy, and that changes four things.
- No subscription clock. You're not logging in to justify a monthly fee. Time investment doesn't create subscription anxiety, which for anyone with a job is a real difference in how the game feels.
- No power in the store. If you want to get stronger, you either farm the materials or buy them from someone who did.
- Gold is the only currency. There is no premium currency at all, and no face-to-face trading — everything routes through the auction house. That fee is a wall of its own, covered in section 6.
- Early Access is expected to run 9–12 months, with full release targeted for late 2027. Numbers, drop tables and economic rules will move underneath you. That's the fact that decides whether week one should be aggressive or careful.
3. Your first hour, in this order
Step one: run the training ground before you leave the starting area.
This is action combat — jump, dodge roll, block, parry, all manual. No tab-target and stand still. A lot of the "stiff" feedback from hands-on previews came from people who hadn't learned parry timing or stamina management yet. Fifteen minutes on skill cancels, stamina drain and dodge direction saves you a pile of wipes later.
Step two: push the main story to the first city — but don't treat quests as your only XP.
Experience comes from quests, discovery points and points of interest, not from killing mobs. Dungeon mob XP is deliberately suppressed. So map coverage isn't downtime, it's the leveling method. See a path you haven't walked? Walk it.
Step three: claim your first Coilstone.
This is the single most important thing in this article: trait points don't come from leveling, they come from Raeven's Coilstones. Every stone sits next to a powerful boss — some in the open, some hidden, some gated behind a quest chain. The earlier you start clearing them, the earlier your power curve lifts off the floor.
Step four: hand in your first Nui Tears at a Nui Statue.
Nui Tears raise your maximum HP, and each tier costs more than the last. Cheap early, expensive late. Hand them in as you find them — don't bank them for a rainy day that costs more.
Step five: run your first dungeon.
Dungeons are soloable or group up to four. Loot chests are per character and open once each, so nobody is competing for your drop. That's a large part of why this game suits people who want to play at their own pace.
Step six: check your channel.
The world is split into Peace and Conflict channels. Parties cross channels, and you can jump straight to your party leader's channel. World bosses: go Conflict. Trade runs: stay Peace.
4. The power curve: level is just the door
Most people spend day one staring at the XP bar. In this game the bar is the least interesting number on screen.
Coilstones are the only source of trait points. Something always guards the stone — that fight is the point of the design.

What matters |

Attribute points |
Level-ups |
Six stats (Strength / Agility / Constitution / Intellect / Talent / Stamina), one point per level, with a preview before you commit |
|
Trait points |
Raeven's Coilstones |
Not from leveling; every stone is guarded by a boss |
|
Trait trees |

Max HP |
Nui Tears → Nui Statue |
Cost rises per tier, so hand them in early |

Unique accessory |
Hersander's Tower puzzles |
One puzzle set per region, each asking for a specific item; clear them all for the accessory |
|
Endgame challenge |
Hereafter Challenge |
Unlocks once the puzzles are done — a timed run at a buffed version of the region boss, with a leaderboard |
The conclusion is blunt: level 50 is the entry ticket; clearing Coilstones is the real week-one work. While someone else is farming mobs for a fraction of a level, two or three extra trait points is a different skill kit inside a dungeon — not a rounding error.
5. Four classes, eight weapons — don't lock your only slot to Warrior
Four classes at launch, two weapons each, eight combat styles: Warrior (longsword / greatsword), Ranger (hatchet / longbow), Berserker (axe and shield / warhammer), Mage (elemental staff / wavesword).
One boundary worth stating clearly: XLGAMES has officially confirmed the shape of this — four classes, two weapons each, eight styles — plus the Warrior's longsword and greatsword and the Ranger's hatchets specifically. The rest of the pairings come from press coverage and hands-on write-ups. Treat the table as a map, not a spec sheet, and check the live client.
What should actually shape your pick isn't the weapon list:
All four classes are locked to a fixed gender at launch. The first December update opens gender choice for the Warrior — the female Warrior — alongside the Warrior's third weapon, the Gladius. The rest unlock class by class, with all locks targeted to be gone by full release.
So if a female Warrior is the goal: don't make Warrior your only character. Level a Ranger or a Mage as a bridge and switch in December. If Warrior is the plan either way, start now — Warrior also gets the first third weapon.
6. Where the gold comes from, and where it goes
This is the section that matters, because the purchase price is the cheap part.
The sink is brutal.
- Gear runs white, green, blue, purple, gold. Weapons enhance to +15, armor to +10.
- Enhancement isn't guaranteed, and it gets worse as it climbs. Player testing puts +9 → +10 at roughly a 10% success rate, at 200,000+ gold a pull, plus 20 high-tier enhancement materials — with a chance to destroy the item outright on failure.
- Every piece has four sockets. Drilling and gemming costs gold, and gems carry their own colour and quality tiers.
The trade side has a wall.
There's no face-to-face trading — everything goes through the auction house. Player screenshots put the listing fee around 30% (some report 31%). XLGAMES hasn't published the figure, so trust the live client over this article. A 30% toll eats most of the spread, which quietly kills the buy-low-sell-high flipping game.
Gold exits through enhancement and enters through quests, gathering and dungeon materials. The fee in the middle decides who actually profits.
Which leaves three sources of gold:
- Main-story gold. The steadiest. Fresh-server prices are usually the best of the entire Early Access, so rushing the story on a new character is the most direct route to a working bankroll.
- Gathering and crafting. No labour-point cap in this build — wood, ore and herbs keep coming. Early demand for enhancement materials is heavy, so this is boring, predictable money.
- Dungeons and bosses. Harder, hostile to bots, friendly to humans, and they drop enhancement materials.
If you'd rather not spend launch week swinging a pickaxe, gold is the one input you can top up from outside:
- ArcheAge Chronicles gold — pvpbank.com/archeage-chronicles-gold · order for the region and server your client actually connects to (Singapore, Brazil, NA or EU)
- Original ArcheAge gold — pvpbank.com/archeage-product · a different game, don't mix the two up
This article contains paid product links. Items listed are sold by PVPBank, an independent third party, not by XLGAMES. All game content is property of its respective owner.
7. Three things not to do in week one
- Don't buy a high-tier house. Top-tier housing reportedly runs into the 300,000-gold range. Week-one gold belongs in things that produce — gathering tools, enhancement materials, gear that gets you into dungeons. A house is a hole you pour gold into.
- Don't stockpile enhancement materials betting on a price spike. The 30% fee eats the spread, and Early Access numbers get patched. Hoarding is the fastest way to get flattened by a balance pass.
- Don't solo trade runs in Conflict. PvE channels are safe and pay less; PvP channels pay more and get you robbed. Without a fixed group in week one, stay in Peace and take the smaller margin.
8. What the next six months look like
|
When |
What lands |

Can I play solo? Yes. Dungeons run solo or in a party of up to four, and loot chests are per character, so there's no drop competition.
Is it on console? Not yet. PC and Steam only at launch; the PS5 and Xbox pages are wishlist listings pointing at 2027.

Starting now? Do these two things first
Clear the training ground, then go claim a Coilstone before you spend a single gold on gear.
- ArcheAge Chronicles gold: pvpbank.com/archeage-chronicles-gold
- Original ArcheAge gold (a different game): pvpbank.com/archeage-product
What decides your first month isn't the class you picked — it's whether you got the Coilstone loop running inside the first hour. Everyone reaches level 50. Not everyone reaches the trait points.
Numbers and rules follow official announcements and the live client; enhancement rates and auction fees above come from player testing and may be adjusted during Early Access.
